The rhodochrosite
was formed million years ago, when the crystallization of its
mass from hidrotermals
solutions of manganese carbonate began, from there its
stratified
appearance.
At the moment it is one of the most required and appreciated
gems of
Am�rica and Europe.
It is a mineral
peculiarity (manganese carbonate) of a showy pink color in all
its ranges,
from smooth to intense. Its name comes from the Greek, since "rodo"
means rose and "chros", color. It was already well-known
in the pre-Columbian
civilizations, and delicately carved by the men of
the Viracocha Inca (also called
Ripac Inca), when they conquered for the
Incaic Empire the northwest of which
today is Argentina at the beginning
of century XIII. In archaeological
excavations were found jewels and amulets
elaborated in this mineral, that among
other things symbolized the petrified
blood of its ancestors and a manifestation of
immortality. For this reason
also is known it like Rose of the Inca.
At
the moment is extracted it in the Andean premountain range, near the
locality
of Andalgal�, province of Catamarca (Argentina). This country can
be
considered the only one that has it, because just has been found some vestiges
in the north of Am�rica.
